Dr. Kurian Oommen

Kerala-based Dr. Kurian Oommen’s 23 years of experience in Pulmonology provides him with expertise in managing pulmonary disorders, particularly Tuberculosis. He has served as a Dictrict TB Medical Officer, Pathanamthitta for a good long 12 years. He is a recipient of State Award for Best TB Officer at the hands of Chief Minister and Health Minister in the year 2002, as a mark of recognition for his excellent services.

Dr. Kurian Oommen has completed MBBS from Trivandrum Medical College, Trivandrum and then pursued the PG Diploma course in Tuberculosis and Chest Diseases – DTCD offered by B J Medical College, Ahmedabad.

He is associated with numerous medical bodies where he has held significant positions in the past and still presently holding in many. They refer to (Past) President of KGMOA (Kerala Government Medical Officer’s Association)- Pathanamthitta, (Past) District Co-ordinator and District Chairman of District Task Force- Pathanamthitta, (Current) Treasurer of APCCM- Academy of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, (Current) Treasurer of District TB Society, to name a few. TB in India is a tremendous challenge and with the aim of controlling it, the Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP), based on the DOTS strategy, began as a pilot in 1994. Dr. Oommen was a part of this project implemented by WHO in Pathanamthitta, one among the 5 districts from India and the only one from South India.

He is presently attached to three centres which are Chest Clinic (Thiruvalla), Poyanil Hospital (Kozenchery) and Medical Trust Hospital (Kulanada) where he offers comprehensive treatment for TB and other respiratory disorders.
